The Perch lives in the big lakes in large school and colonizes different areas, moving according to the different season.
It feeds on fish and insect fry that it finds in the drowning waters of lough Derg. The perfect conditions of the environment and the abundance of food at its disposal favor the proliferation of the species
Schoals of several hundred of fish populate the lake, with specimens of excellent medium size that can exceed 40 cm in length.
The fishing techniques that can be used are different and all very funny.
- Dropshot: certainly the most effective technique on the large schools of perch. We hook small rubber shads with a straight or paddle tail.
- Fishing with Jig head: a technique that often allows to select the size of the fish. Shad of 3 “/ 4” in natural or bright colors are the most effective.
- Metal Jig and Blades: it allows to stimulate the aggressiveness of the fish, very fast and dynamic technique.
A light equipment allows us to enjoy the best fight with these small predators.
- 7 ‘ rod with 1/2 oz casting range allows us to fish with any technique.
- Reel of size 3000 spooled with 10 lb braid
- Fluorocarbon from 0.30 mm as terminal tackle
Perch can be fished all year, but the months of August, September and October are certainly the best.
